Refrigeration may be defined very simply as the process of removing heat under controlled conditions. Cold is merely a relative term referring to the absence of heat. Thus, to to produce "cold" heat must be removed. This may be accomplished by using ice or by any mechanical means.
While refrigeration has been discussed in terms of food preservation, thir is only one of many pricipal applications. It is also used to provide comport conditions and to produce raw materials and finished products.
